Heliotropism means changing the orientation of fixed organisms or their parts, in response to sunlight. The work is the result of an experience carried out during the Jardins Suspensos residency, in Morro da Babilônia, Rio de Janeiro. Starting from listening and the exchange between residents, I tried to identify a universal feeling, common to the people present in that space. Planting sunflowers in the community during the residency period was the way I found to create a rapprochement with the residents. The conversations interspersed various subjects: methods of planting, homemade recipes, types of land, spices, beliefs, comments about the surroundings, daily life. Oxygen is present in the alleys, diversions and fields of the favela. It is transported by the inhabitants, who carry out their photosynthesis and pollinate, each with their colorful stories: they take root daily. The work was later exhibited in museums in the form of a boat with sunflowers, and accompanied by videos and photos of the process in Morro da Babilônia.
